Enhancing the Performance of AnMBR Treating Municipal Wastewater at a High Organic Loading Rate with Iron Addition

The performance of a laboratory-scale 40 L anaerobic membrane bioreactor (AnMBR) treating municipal wastewater with and without iron supplementation was evaluated at ambient temperatures hydraulic retention time (HRT) 6 h sludge (SRT) 50 days. system exhibited satisfactory during the summer winter periods average COD removal efficiencies 73 ± 4% 60 4%, respectively. Moreover, two different FeCl3 dosages were studied for optimizing operation in terms organic load removal, phosphorus biogas production, fouling, emerging contaminant removal. addition 25 mg L−1 improved AnMBR. More specifically, effluent concentrations 177 21 mg/L, while after 30 L−1, decreased to 147 8 mg/L 149 11 TP by 75% dosage almost completely removed L−1. slightly dosing production not affected addition. AnMBR appeared inadequate all selected micropollutants, effect on micropollutant very limited.
